Dear Sheldon Students and Families,

The 2026/27 school year is almost here, and we are excited to welcome our students and families back to Sheldon High School! Whether you are joining the Irish family for the first time or preparing for your senior year, we want to make sure you have the information you need for a successful start. Below are important resources, upcoming events, schedule information, and contacts as we prepare for the first day of school.

The Sheldon High School Website is the best place to find current information throughout the school year. We encourage families to bookmark the site and use it as a first stop when questions come up. You can also quickly access:

One of our favorite ways to begin the year is Welcome Back Irish, an opportunity for students and families to visit campus, connect with staff, and get ready for the year ahead. This year that will happen on Monday, August 31 from 2:30 - 5:30. Families will have an opportunity to meet members of our administrative and support teams, explore campus, learn about student activities and athletics, and connect with many of the resources available at Sheldon.

Information and resources will include counseling, athletics, our food pantry and clothing closet, technology support, student groups, and community partners. Students can also get assistance with technology and learn more about accessing tools such as Canvas and StudentVUE/ParentVUE. The goal is simple: we want every student and family to begin the year feeling welcomed, informed, connected, and ready to go.

Our incoming 9th graders will have Sheldon to themselves for their first day! The first day for our 9th graders will be Tuesday, September 8. This special transition day is designed to help our newest Irish become comfortable with the school before the older students arrive. Students will meet teachers, learn their way around the building, attend classes, connect with classmates, and become familiar with the routines and expectations of high school. More importantly, this day is about helping our newest students understand that they are now part of the Sheldon community. We want every 9th grader to leave their first day knowing where to go, who they can turn to for help, and that they belong at Sheldon.

We are excited to welcome all Sheldon students back for the first full day of the 2026/27 school year. The first day for all students will be on Wednesday, September 9. The opening days of school are important. Students will reconnect with classmates and staff, meet their teachers, learn classroom expectations and routines, and begin building the relationships that will support their success throughout the year. Attendance from the very beginning matters, and we encourage all students to be present and ready to start the year strong.

Student schedules are available through StudentVUE. They were posted at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 28. Schedules are built around students' spring forecasting requests while ensuring they are making appropriate progress toward graduation requirements. Our counseling and scheduling teams have worked hard to accommodate student requests while balancing class sizes and course availability.

Because of the complexity of the master schedule, schedule changes will be limited. Corrections will generally be considered when:

Schedule requests are reviewed based on graduation progress, academic need, available space, and the impact a change would have on the overall master schedule.

If a student’s schedule does not align with their academic plan, a Schedule Change Request Form will be available starting on August 31  through the following link: SHS 2027-27 Google Schedule Correction Form. Requests will be reviewed based on:

One of our goals is for students and families to know who they can turn to when they need help. Students are assigned counselors by last name who support them with academic planning, graduation progress, college and career planning, and other needs throughout high school.

Our Athletic Director Barry Bokn and I are also actively involved in supporting students and families. We believe that consistent relationships matter, and these assignments are part of our effort to ensure students and families know who they can contact when questions or concerns arise.

There is something special about the beginning of a new school year. It gives all of us an opportunity for a fresh start, to reconnect, set goals, build relationships, and think about what we want to accomplish together. At Sheldon, we want our students to do more than simply attend school. We want them to feel that they belong, become engaged in their school community, attend consistently, learn at high levels, and ultimately leave Sheldon prepared for whatever comes next.

We are excited about what lies ahead in 2026–27 and cannot wait to have our students back in the building.
