Hi! My name is Malia Martin, and I’m honored to step into the role of Head Coach for the Sheldon Colleens Dance Team. Dance has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I’m thrilled to bring my experience, energy, and heart to this incredible program.
I hold a double major in Dance and Health from Western Oregon University, where I was also a proud member of the WOU Dance Team. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching at Thurston, West Albany, and Parkrose High Schools, helping teams grow in both skill and spirit. I’ve also served as a Performance Judge and held a leadership role as the Education Director for the Judges Association with the Dance & Drill Coaches Association of Oregon (DDCA), where I worked to support coaches and programs across the state.
Outside of coaching, I work at Thurston Middle School as an Educational Assistant and as a Fitness Instructor at Lagree Plus in Springfield. I’m also deeply invested in our community through my role on the Board of Directors for the Springfield Education Foundation.
My coaching philosophy centers on creating a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment where dancers can thrive—not just as performers, but as teammates and leaders. I’m truly excited for this upcoming season and can’t wait to watch the Colleens shine on and off the floor.
All dancers and families are invited to a meet and greet opportunity on August 4 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Sheldon High School.  Hope to see all of you there!
