For Black History Month, we would like to recognize Claudette Colvin. She was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement, and she was the “original Rosa Parks” before her protest. Claudette refused to give up her seat to a white woman because she felt she had just as much right as her. She was one of the four people who got arrested for doing so. Her story wasn’t as well-known because of her age and because she was pregnant—they didn’t want to attract negative attention. After all that, she became a nurse aid and retired in 2004. She’s still loving till this day.
