Dear Students, Parents, and Sheldon Community,
It is an honor to be part of this outstanding school. I knew that Sheldon was a great school, but I did not realize how truly special it was until the spring. I was consistently impressed with all members of the school community: teachers, staff, students, parents and community members working to support the students and families. It was a difficult time, but if adversity is the true test of someone’s character, I am so impressed with the Sheldon High School Community.
Over the summer, Sheldon received a face-lift. The building has had the exterior painted and it looks clean and fresh. The roof at Sheldon is in the process of being replaced and with every passing day it is closer to being finished. The custodians are preparing the building for the return of staff and students, as soon as that is possible. Teachers have been creating in their minds what a virtual classroom looks like, while they skip the traditional decorating that has happened in the past. Just like the building is being improved, we are looking forward to the opportunity to do the same in our virtual environment this fall.
This fall we will be starting in an online only format. Students will continue to take five classes, which they have chosen with the support of their counselors last spring. 4J School District will be changing our online platform from Google Classroom to Canvas. Canvas will provide a better learning environment for students including increasing the ease of navigating classes. While learning based at home is not ideal, this is an excellent opportunity to make sure that all students are learning at high levels. The staff at Sheldon is up to the challenge of creating the best learning environment possible in these uncertain times.
With the school year only one month away, you will see increased communication from Sheldon. As we get information about the coming school year, we will do our best to send it to you in clear and concise manner. We will also be restarting our Parent/Community Newsletter soon, and that is a great resource about upcoming events. Please look for more messages from Sheldon in the coming days to let you know more about what the school year will look like for your child.
I look forward to working with you in the coming school year. If you have questions or concerns, please call me at Sheldon High School (541-790-6720), or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
