WINTER WEATHER – Snow Day Information: When winter weather arrives, schools may be closed or delayed or buses may use snow routes. These decisions are made by the school district early in the morning and are the same for every 4J school. No news = No change. If schools and buses are on their regular schedule, there will NOT be an announcement. For more information, please see 4J WEATHER.

Snow day notifications: Our school district communicates any decision to change school or bus schedules as quickly as possible in several ways, all well before 6:30 a.m.

4J UPDATES – School Choice: You may enroll your student in your neighborhood school at any time. You also may request to have your child attend a 4J school through the district’s school choice transfer process. The annual application period for 4J resident families is during the month of January prior to fall enrollment. The application period for non-resident families is during the month of March prior to fall enrollment. Lotteries are held after each period to determine the order in which in-district and inter-district transfers are granted. After May 1, 4J resident and non-resident families may seek transfers for available school openings for fall enrollment. All transfers are granted by priority and in the order they are received. State Testing: Assessment is how student learning is measured, from quick teacher check-ins and quizzes, to final course exams and state tests. All public schools in the U.S. are required to systematically assess student learning and report participation and results in school accountability systems. Students in Oregon are assessed periodically to measure proficiency in state and district standards, including completing statewide assessments in certain grades. Statewide assessment results provide important information for students, parents, teachers, schools and districts. Please visit here for more testing information from the Eugene School District.

SHELDON STUDENT SUCCESS DRIVE – At Sheldon High School we have many students that are in need. When students’ basic needs are not met, they cannot learn at high levels. We are trying to remove barriers and fill gaps to help students to be more success at school. Currently we are building a Food Pantry (where students can access food for weekends and long breaks) and Clothing Boutique (where students can access free clothing). We’re gathering Personal Need Items (this could be personal hygiene products like tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, etc), and School Supplies (paper, pencils, etc). We are also looking into options around providing more mental health services for students.  Please click here to show your support for our student.

COMMUNITY RESPONDER: A Sheldon Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator at Sheldon High School for needs specific to Sheldon High School students that have not been met by internal school resources. These type of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding.

A Sheldon High School Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the Sheldon High School Coordinator to secure and deliver the item.
